Job Description:
The Tableau Developer & Application Administrator is responsible for both building insightful data visualizations and administering the Tableau environment. This position designs dashboards, optimizes data sources, and supports both internal users and external customers of our products. The ideal candidate combines technical proficiency with a user-centered mindset to help stakeholders transform data into actionable insights while ensuring compliance with privacy and security standards such as HIPAA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and publish interactive dashboards and reports in Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server/Cloud.
- Serve as the primary application administrator managing users, permissions, groups, sites, and scheduling.
- Partner with analysts, data engineers, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver effective visual analytics solutions.
- Optimize workbook performance through efficient data extracts, filters, and calculations.
- Manage data source connections, including published data sources, live connections, and extracts.
- Monitor flows, automations, resolving issues to ensure report delivery per SLAs.
- Enforce Tableau governance standards, folder structures, and user provisioning practices.
- Ensure dashboards and data visualizations comply with HIPAA and minimum necessary standards, applying appropriate role-based access controls.
- Develop and support user-facing dashboards, enabling self-service reporting while maintaining data privacy and usability.
- Enable customer success to train and support end users in Tableau usage, dashboard interpretation, and self-service reporting practices.
- Ensure clear documentation of dashboard logic, system changes, and version history in accordance with governance practices.
- Participate in structured change management processes for dashboard deployment, user provisioning, and system upgrades.
- Coordinates upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery testing with IT or DevOps teams.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience developing Tableau dashboards and administering Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud.
- Proficiency with SQL for data preparation and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of BI concepts, data modeling, and visualization best practices.
- Familiarity with data governance, role-based access control, and user management within Tableau.
- Understanding of HIPAA compliance and minimum necessary standards in relation to data access and visualization.
- Ability to translate business questions into analytical frameworks and visual designs.
- Strong communication skills for interfacing with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; able to evaluate trade-offs, assess data limitations, and guide stakeholders to meaningful insights.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a healthcare, financial services, or public sector environment.
- Knowledge of ETL processes, cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery), or Tableau Prep.
- Familiarity with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell, REST API) for Tableau Server tasks.
- Tableau Desktop and/or Tableau Server certification.
- Experience with Agile or DevOps-based delivery environments.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a remote position. The employee must have a private location from which to work, with Internet access and a personal smartphone with capability to be secured and have support for SMS, apps for multifactor authentication and remote hotspot (technology stipend provided to help offset costs). Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

This job operates in a professional virtual office environment (Remote). This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, paper binders and paper cutters.
