Job Description

The Accounts Receivable (AR) Accountant is responsible for managing and maintaining the company’s receivables. This role ensures accurate and timely invoicing, monitors outstanding balances, follows up on overdue accounts, and supports the month-end closing process. The AR Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining healthy cash flow and building positive client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and send accurate invoices to customers based on sales or service agreements.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and follow up on overdue accounts.
  • Reconcile AR accounts to ensure accurate records.
  • Post customer payments by recording cash, checks, and credit card transactions.
  • Resolve billing discrepancies and customer queries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with the sales and customer service teams to verify account information.
  • Prepare AR-related reports for management (e.g., aging summaries, cash collections).
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities and audit requirements.
  • Maintain customer records and ensure proper documentation for all receivable transactions.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls related to AR processes.
  • Collaborate with development, grants, and program teams to track pledge payments, grant receivables, and donor restrictions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in Accounts Receivable or a similar accounting role.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Bill.com).
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and AR best practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a fast-paced or high-volume environment.
  • Familiarity with collections practices and legal guidelines.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
  • Familiarity with donor management systems or CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce).

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a remote position. The employee must have a private location from which to work, with Internet access and a personal smartphone with capability to be secured and have support for SMS, apps for multifactor authentication and remote hotspot (technology stipend provided to help offset costs). Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

This job operates in a professional virtual office environment (Remote). This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, paper binders and paper cutters.

Travel
